??Sustainable care-taking for older couple??
We are considering retiring soon. We have skills in aquaponics, chicken raising, food preservation and odd handy man stuff, chicken coop building and greenhouse building and dental technician (crown and bridge lab owners)

We are a couple in our early sixties considering the idea of taking a position as caretakers that would involve the above skills. We would expect separate housing and a gardening area to be a starting point for payment and very little else. This is not an appeal for employment right now. We still have our own business (a crown and bridge dental lab)that we need to wind down with honor to our accounts and we have a home to sell. So this is just to see what might be possible for us in our retirement.

Suggestions and advice are welcome.

Interested in the fact that you have a dental lab. I am a Senior with a small Social Security income and need  a couple crowns and a partial. I nearly fainted whan I was told the cost. Even with the dental plan I have the cost was out of sight. Is there anything you can do to help me?

Hi Kaliya,

Our business is in Florida and we are not allowed by state law to treat patient's need directly. Dental prosthesis can only be ordered and placed by a state licensed dentist.  As such, the dentists are our clients, not the patients. I will do some research and see if there is any help available for you locally. Sacramento seems to be your closest large city.  Are you able to get there easily? A large city is more likely to have services to help those in need than a smaller city.  Other than that I may be able to help you with some of your costs through your local dentist. I have sent a friend request to you to facilitate private messaging.  I may be in a position to offer some help at no cost for my services to you through your dentist but we really need to discuss it privately.

regards to care-taking...we are starting a small organic farm from a family inheritance and we have a big vision and lots of potential. We are developing a 5-10 year plan and want aquaponics included in all this. We are in SD and the winter weather is not always enjoyable as i plan to go south in the winter months. We have some housing options on the farm (2 four plex apartments, and an old farm house.

@Bill Ross

Hi Bill,
I am so glad to see someone interested in this idea. Not sure if you were replying to me or not so I will just go ahead be happy pretending you did anyhow. However, Like you SD is way off the path for me and way to frozen and way to close to Fukushima. I suppose I should clarify the general area I would be interstate in would be much closer to the southeastern part of the country. Our family circle centers between West Virgina, Nashville and Central Florida.

I wish you were closer I am in Liberty,missouri and wanting this type of situation.  I am younger but would like to  raise rabbits, quail and chickens as well as have my aquapoincs year round in a greenhouse.  I would like to work with other farmers// non farmers and have a community where each farm specializes in a crop so we can trade and buy from one another.  I have also successfully grown turmeric and ginger which are both cash crops not native to Missouri.  I need land I live in suburbia right now and just built an 11 by 18 greenhouse in my backyard.  I have a compost inside to help heat it, water and straw bales I am growing on.  I would love to grow mushrooms as well it's all very exciting just don't have the funding.

Description: We are currently seeking the right person (or couple) to be responsible for the daily operation of a large aquaponics system in Honduras at the Children's Village. Work Week: Intern(s) will work 6 hour days, 5 days week, but are on call for any "emergency' maintenance needs during off-hour time. Such is the nature of farming. On weekends feeding fish and basic care of the aquaponics system is required, or must be arranged to be covered.

I am looking for some help on 20 acres in Blanca, Colorado. Just finished up about 500 sq feet of indoor grow space for the winter. Burried my 30ft RV 4 foot deep for insulating purposes. Front room area 14x24 will be divided up to create an extra room. Gutting bathroom out of back-room to make larger - then installing a bathroom off the front room. Got room for two individuals/couples. $200 per month for a limited time then no rent for the rest of your life. Sound good?
